Stuck At Home? Defend Early Against These Spring Pests!

While many people are stuck in their homes right now, that doesn’t stop the seasons from changing or the pests from returning.  The first day of Spring for 2020 is March 19th and your home could be at risk for an infestation!  The frequent rains Georgia experienced during the Winter set up the ideal environment for a lot of pests.  Mosquitoes, termites, and ants especially will be early visitors.  So while you’re at home, get an early start on defending against these pests from the inside of your home and out.

#1 Mosquitoes

Mosquitoes are already bothersome enough and now with the Coronavirus outbreak, people have even more questions and concerns.  Read our previous blog post if you’re one of the several people wondering “Can You Get Coronavirus From Mosquitoes?”

Mosquito bites can be especially annoying. However, it is not just the itch you need to worry about; mosquito-derived diseases can make you, your family, and even your pets extremely sick.  With everybody being at home and around each other more than usual, you want to make sure to prevent mosquitoes so that you can all stay safe and healthy.  Here are some helpful tips for keeping your home a mosquito-free zone.

Spring Mosquito Prevention Tips:

    • Remove all sources of standing water
    • Trim shrubs and keep lawn mowed
    • Clear away yard debris

Any Pest can perform a mosquito treatment on your home or commercial property.  We can inspect, identify, and treat the problem.  We also provide treatments tailored to your personal situation to ensure you get the very best results.

#2 Termites

Termites are also well-known pests that can infest your home and cause expensive damage. Termites are wood-eating insects and known for their gluttonous appetites.  They swarm at different times and this, combined with their fast growth, results in a lot of damage to your home or business before they are discovered.  To get immediate help against termites it is important to know the signs of having an infestation.

8 Signs of a Termite Infestation:

  • Termite mounds
  • Hollow-sounding wood
  • Bits of debris
  • Sagging of floors or ceilings
  • Mud tubes on exterior walls
  • Crumbling wood of any structure type
  • Cracked or distorted paint on wood surfaces
  • Groups of winged insects (“swarmers”) or discarded wings

Any Pest, Inc. offers Sentricon® Termite Baiting Systems, as well as Liquid Barrier Treatments, to detect and eliminate termite populations in and around your home or business.

#3 Carpenter Ants

When the sun comes out, carpenter ants seek food and shelter.   Because of how they move, it is possible for them to overtake your home before you even realize they have arrived.  Carpenter ants make colonies in walls which results in structural damage to homes and businesses. They are willing to travel far from their nests to find food so you may notice rustling sounds within your walls or even piles of wood shavings underneath wooden items. They excavate wet fungus damaged areas to set their colonies up in the wood. If there is a colony in a structure it will typically be in direct correlation to a moisture issue.

Where Do Carpenter Ants Enter My House?

  • Piping
  • Foundation
  • Cracks in your home
  • Attic Vents
  • Telephone Lines
  • Electrical Wires

The most common types of ant infestations in homes are whats called polygenic ants. “Multiple queens” ants that you see are workers and they only make up approximately 30% of the colony. You more than likely are seeing less than 10% of the entire colony and there are a whole lot more out there!
